Nature's Helper on the Prowl

A young Red-tailed Hawk is visiting the neighborhood...

With results...

The next image shows the contact point between Hawk and prey. I'll spare the gory details, but use your imagination.

Note the impressions at the lower left corner. The Hawk's body appears to be facing to the right with its right talon folded under. Wing and tail feather prints are clearly visible. Perhaps the left talon has its prey. The struggle looks to proceed counter clock-wise around until the end. Bad news for the Fox Squirrel, but for the Hawk... Breakfast!

I've noticed our abundant squirrel and small creature population seems to have shrunk somewhat this Fall. Looks like the Red-tailed Hawk is doing its duty, as intended.

Balance of nature... eh?
